If you want to do something this weekend but aren’t sure what events are going on, we’ve got you covered. Travel back to the 90's, listen to the tunes of Nina Diaz at the House of Rock, or take a tour or the city’s Centennial House.
ArtWalk Dollar After Dark
If you haven’t seen the Dorothy Hood exhibition yet, here’s your opportunity to remedy that. You’ll get a chance to stroll through the Art Museum of South Texas galleries during special extended hours. The museum will stay open until 9 p.m., with admission at $1. Friday, 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m., 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd., 825-3500, artmuseumofsouthtexas.org.
25th Annual Fiesta De Los Niños
Now in its 25th year, this fundraiser features a barbeque dinner, dancing to a national recording artist and silent and live auctions, with proceeds benefiting Driscoll Children’s Hospital. This year’s auctions will include a quail hunt, a chance to see Bruno Mars on tour, and more. Tickets required. Friday, 6:30 p.m., 1901 N. Shoreline Blvd., 694-6401.
Back to the 90’s
The 90s are back (well, except for Beanie Babies and tie-dye shirts), and the revival hits the American Bank Center this weekend. See some of the decade’s most memorable music acts, including Naughty by Nature, Tone Loc, Sisqo, 2 Live Crew, and Biz Markie. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Saturday, 7:30 p.m., 1901 N. Shoreline Blvd., 694-6401.
Nina Diaz with Swedish Ropes and Lady Catherine
Nina Diaz hits the stage at the House of Rock. NPR has called Girl in a Coma’s lead singer “one of the two or three most exciting, scary-good vocalists in rock today.” If you’re a rock and roll fiend, you won’t want to miss this performance. Saturday, 8 p.m., 511 Starr Street, 882-7625, texashouseofrock.com.
Centennial House Tours
If you want to learn more about the city’s history, then the Centennial House tour is perfect for you. The tours allows residents to venture inside the historic home that was built in 1849 by Forbes and Rebecca Britton. The house is open by the Corpus Christi Area Heritage Society every first Sunday of the month. Sunday, Noon – 4 p.m, 411 Upper Broadway, 882-8691.
