Summer designs make us feel real fine. When it comes to summer, a chilled dessert or trip to the beach get us in the mood, but our homes sustain it.
So as summer approaches, it shouldn’t surprise you that we’ve been a little obsessed with 2014 summer interior design trends lately. Our list certainly isn’t exclusive, but these are the ones with which we’re most infatuated. Check out these five must-see summer interior design trends:
More Florals
Yes, we already wrote about decorating with florals back in March. No, we’re not apologizing for it. For summer, though, it’s all about planting floral touches throughout your existing decorations. Instead of bright and bold accent pieces, choose more natural and organic pieces (as if flowers aren’t natural enough, right?) like leaf coasters or a pebbles and moss table centerpiece.

The Great Indoors
Oh, postmodernity. You demolish preconceived boundaries like walls in a remodeled home. And in this case, it’s the barrier distinguishing indoors from outdoors. Summer interior design should include seamless transitions between outside places and inside spaces. If you’re starting a big remodeling project, consider an indoor/outdoor patio like this one. Or, keep it simple by creating nature-themed, earth-inspired powder bathrooms and bedrooms.

Ombre, Hombre
Shade. If you somehow can’t find it during summer, the next best thing is decorating your home with it. The thing about ombre is that it’s so moody, romantic, intimate and warm, and isn’t that exactly what summer is? If it’s not, it should be. An ombre art piece is certainly nice, but we’re thinking bigger. Much bigger. You should totally paint an entire wall in a colored gradient of your choice, preferably in a similar way that these stylish rooms did.

Geometry
It’s simple: circles plus squares equal perfection. You can’t go wrong with minimalistic geometric patterns, whether it’s an area rug, wall accent piece, or, if you really want to think abstract, room layout. Either way, get into shape. Go for curve appeal.

Not Black and White
A black and white color motif done right is hard to beat. But save it for winter (or some other time that’s not right now). Whatever you do, keep it colorful. A bright backsplash that pops. A bold area rug. Eye-catching art pieces. Red and blue are a must come July.
